The Nekyia Presents Spectacle & Bacchanalia
The Hotel Utah
Saturday January 28th, 9pm
500 4th Street @ Bryant, San Francisco
Doors at 9:30pm
$13 Suggested Donation
Performers include Kristina’s saucy student troupe, Spice Rack; the gorgeous and captivating Elizabeth Strong accompanied by the musical stylings of the legendary Dan Cantrell; raucous rump-shaking Balkan brass band, The Brass Menagerie; and The Nekyia featuring original music from Scott Sterling (aka Drumspyder), choreography and dance from Kristina Cañizares, and The Nekyia debut of Aliena and Summer.
It is with unparalleled excitement, pride, and humility that I count down the final days until The Nekyia's first event: Spectacle & Bacchanalia, this Saturday evening at The Hotel Utah (details after the manifesto).
This event is the debut of a larger vision for The Nekyia, with multiple dancers, all-original music, and a clearer mission for our creation. This mission is monstrously ambitious (those who know Scott and me won’t be surprised at all to hear that). It is nothing less that the complete transformation of our human consciousness, the seemingly impossible leap into a new realm of connection, wisdom, awareness, and joy.
Being awake in the darkness is terrifying if you are alone, but we are not alone. Through art, dance, music, and beauty we can awaken together, discovering the truth that is hidden in our bodies and the joy that is too often buried by fear and isolation. This is the joy that will sustain us in our fight to preserve the world we love.
We call it Ecstatic Tribalista Groove. Ecstatic, because it comes from an intensity of emotion and energy that is larger than ourselves. Tribalista, because we are just a small part of an international tribe that is evolving parallel to us. Groove, because in the words of the feminist revolutionary Emma Goldman, “If I can’t dance, it’s not my revolution!”
So please, come and join us. The event will raise funds needed to continue building the company and will bring together some of the great talents in our community. It will be rockin’, sexy, sweaty, raw, bumpin’ inspiration.
Besos,
Kristina
